In August 1983, following an NCBLG and NGLTF-led campaign, Mrs. Coretta Scott King announces support for national civil rights legislation protecting the rights of gays and lesbians.

Mission Statement

Birthright: The NCBLG Founders' Legacy Projects (Birthright) recaptures and shares the histories and the stories of Black LGBT people in order to strenghten and inform broader movements for social justice and change.

Goals

  1. To identify and secure the resources necessary to sustain and maintain the mission, programs, and activities of Birthright.
  2. To organize and govern the processes and methods to identify, collect, and disseminate the legacy of Black LGBT people.
  3. To develop and maintain strategic collaborations and supportive partnerships to realize the mission, programs, and activities of Birthright.
